Many of today’s visitors become tomorrow’s residents, neighbors and coworkers, creating even more economic and cultural growth. Born and raised in Duluth, MN, the landscape around Lake Superior gave me a beautiful palette of water, sky and forest to inspire my work. I have lived in a number of places in the US over the years but the scenes from the Great Lakes region continue to be the main focus of my creativity. I spent many years working in the graphic arts and faux painting fields before turning to studio art. While I have used many mediums over the years to create, since 2003 I have concentrated on oils. During the Carmel Porchfest, the Carmel on Canvas Art Fair takes place on Sunday afternoon from Noon – 4 p.m, with this year’s Artist Lane along the Monon Greenway on 2nd Ave NW between Main Street and 1st St. NW.

Artists represented include internationally known artists, as well as local favorites in various stages of their careers. Owner and Mexican native Magdalena Hoyos-Segovia is an internationally known professional artist who had a lifelong dream to open her own gallery. Upon seeing the vision of the Carmel Arts & Design District, she and professional artist Mary Johnston opened the gallery in December 2006. Because of their talents, they are able to offer a variety of services and styles to the art buyer. Magdalena also runs The Carmel Academy of the Arts – the second floor of the gallery is dedicated classroom space used for fine arts instruction for students of all ages. After those upgrades were complete, the redevelopment efforts intensified to bring galleries, unique shops, restaurants and the Indiana Design Center to the Arts & Design District.
